  • A Maths colleague introduced me to your web site and I love to use it. The questions are so varied I can use them with all of my classes, I even let year 13 have a go at some of them. I like being able to access Starters for the whole month so I can use favourites with classes I see at different times of the week. Thanks.

  • The starter of the day questions/puzzles/problems are certainly varied. Today’s is very basic but the basics do need to be practised! One of the advantages of having these ready-made lesson starters is that the teacher can attend to the admin tasks and get the main part of the lesson ready while the pupils get involved in a worthwhile activity as soon as they arrive at the classroom. This starter is also easy to check as there is only one final answer. Don’t forget that the answers can be found lower down the page and the numbers in the starter can be changed by reloading this page.

Note to teacher: Doing this activity once with a class helps students develop strategies. It is only when they do this activity a second time that they will have the opportunity to practise those strategies. That is when the learning is consolidated. Laptops In Lessons

Teacher, do your students have access to computers such as tablets, iPads or Laptops?  This page was really designed for projection on a whiteboard but if you really want the students to have access to it here is a concise URL for a version of this page without the comments:

Transum.org/go/?Start=November19

However it would be better to assign one of the student interactive activities below.

Here is the URL which will take them to a related student activity.
