August 2003

Sunday 3rd:- I arrive back in Thailand after a fantastic summer traveling in Europe (see last month's diary for some pictures). Just like the credits at the end of a feature film here are some thanks:

Thanks to Mom and Ron for the hospitality, Julie and Michael for the Christening party, Jamie and Ben for the entertainment, Sak for the Birthday meal, Tassanee for the video, Nick for the loan of his car, Greeny for the lifts, JP for the laughs, Kev, Sam and Loz for the great night out including skipping, Andy, Donna and Oliver (their son) for bed and breakfast (what were those Irish pancake things called?), Surj and Muks for the great curry, Chris and Graham for the French experience and finally to Nanna for mentioning me in her memoirs.

Slowly getting back into school mode, dentist tomorrow, wish I was still on holiday!

I've just had a drink made from a dried Krachieb flower. I think that once a big company finds out about it it'll be bigger than Coke...

Today is Thailand's Mother's Day, a national holiday and the Queen's Birthday. An unexpected extra holiday for me. The shool is being used for local people to give offerings to the monks:

Now I have reached to grand old age of 45 I'm starting to get aches and pains all over and feel a need for an upgrade! I trying to discipline myself to keep up the exercising three times a week but now my routine consists of stretching exercises like the old folk in the park rather than the power lifting and body building stuff.

16th Aug: I think Wolves play their first match of the season today. I'm behind them all the way. I don't think the match will be on the telly here but I'll check to web for the results. I need someone to send we a Wolves car sticker as so many cars in the car park at work have Man United stickers.

Lost ... Blackburn 5, Wolves 1

Wolves were handed a harsh lesson in the realities of life in the Premiership as Blackburn began their campaign with a commanding home win.

Lorenzo Amoruso and Brett Emerton marked the debut appearances with goals, while David Thompson scored from 25 yards and substitute Andy Cole notched twice.

Wolves had chances to force their way back into the contest - and scored a consolation through Steffen Iversen - but need to demonstrate greater composure in front of goal if they are to avoid an arduous battle against relegation.

In Thailand you can get rice in all sorts of styles and flavours but to get good bread is much more difficult.

I've bought a bread making machine and am amazed how well it works! Here's the first effort ... perfect in every way... no one's more shocked than me!

Loaf of the day (18th August) Rum Raisin!

Loaf of the day (20th August) ... Brown bread

Four - Nil? Could there possibly be a worse start to the season?

Saw "Pirates of the Caribbean",  wasn't convinced that Johnny Depp's character could have possibly been a Pirate captain. The film was too long but otherwise a good afternoon's entertainment.
