This is level 1: problems involving numbers generally up to 12. You may not need all of the information given in the question. You can earn a trophy if you get at least 7 questions correct and you do this activity online.

1) After her birthday party Jennifer had 6 milk chocolates and 10 plain chocolates left out of 3 boxes. How many chocolates did Jennifer have altogether?
2) Jeremiah went for a 7km walk on his 7th birthday but he quickly became tired and travelled the last 3km by bus. How many kilometers did Jeremiah actually walk?
3) In a shop there are 7 vases arranged on 5 shelves. In each vase there were 6 flowers. How many flowers were there altogether?
4) Jessica likes to have 7 oranges squeezed to make orange juice every morning. It takes 8 minutes to do the squeezing. How many oranges does Jessica use in a whole week?
5) In a class of twenty four pupils there are seven friends who have been given a box of twenty eight crayons to share equally between themselves. How many crayons will each of the friends receive?
6) John is 8 years old. He is three years older than his brother and four years older than his sister. How old is John's brother?
7) Jonathan scored 7 points in the first round of the quiz. He then scored 7 points in the second round and 6 points in the third round. What was the total number of points Jonathan scored in all three rounds?
8) This week eighty cakes were set out in rows of 10 on a shop counter. Last week they were set out in rows of 20. How many rows were there this week?
9) Jordan measured the heights of the three trees in her garden. The heights were 3m, 4m and 8m. What was the difference in heights of the tallest tree and the shortest tree?
10) Jose multiplies one of the numbers in the list below by another number in the list. The answer he got was also a number in the list. What product did Jose get? 3579111520

Instructions Try your best to answer the questions above. Type your answers into the boxes provided leaving no spaces. As you work through the exercise regularly click the "check" button. If you have any wrong answers, do your best to do corrections but if there is anything you don't understand, please ask your teacher for help. When you have got all of the questions correct you may want to print out this page and paste it into your exercise book. If you keep your work in an ePortfolio you could take a screen shot of your answers and paste that into your Maths file.

Vocabulary for Arithmetic

The total when numbers are added is called the sum
minuend − subtrahend = difference
multiplicand × multiplier = product
dividend ÷ divisor = quotient
