In the afternoon we had our usual potted sports, which was a very entertainable event. In that afternoon we learnt a great new game called cricket stumps, which the girls from 5th Hayes learnt us. In the end Redshank won, and a joyous Redshank and the rest settled down to our evening meal.
After the evening meal we played about till it was time to go to a Gilwell campfire. John Tranter, Andrew Quinton and me, fully dressed in camp fire blankets and pipe helmets, went to a really good camp fire, where we did the monks and the sleeping man sketch and the Americans did their camp staff song, which both went down well.
After the camp fire we went to the Coke bar and then returned home to our own fire, where the warden came and sang another song for us. That night in bed Bob Kern came round and showed us some sparkling evergreen lifesavers.
Friday August 22nd.
We woke up later this morning at around 8:15am and had breakfast as usual. This morning was spent striking camp. Once everything had been taken down we had dinner. We had to wait nearly one hour for the coach to arrive because of the traffic. Then we loaded the coach up again and set off back home, but on the way back a truck had overturned and we were delayed another three hours. Once we got back to the Scout hut we unloaded into the church hall for obvious reasons.
I think now the kids who went meet lots more friends at Gilwell and enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Neal Quinton.
