Imagine a long rope wrapped around Earth's equator. A cut is made in the rope, and an extra metre of rope is added to its length so that it now exceeds the circumference of the planet. The rope is then rearranged to form a circle at a uniform height above the equator. What is the size of the gap between the rope and Earth now?
