This is level 6: mixed questions without diagrams. You can earn a trophy if you get at least 9 questions correct and you do this activity online.

If the answer to a question is a pair of coordinates, you need to type in the brackets and comma like this \( (2,3) \)

1. What are the coordinates of the point \( (6,5) \) after it has been translated by the vector \( \begin{pmatrix} 1 \\ 2 \\ \end{pmatrix} \) ?

Correct Wrong

2. What are the coordinates of the point \( (4,3) \) after it has been translated by the vector \( \begin{pmatrix} -5 \\ -5 \\ \end{pmatrix} \) ?

Correct Wrong

3. What are the coordinates of the point \( (-1,-2) \) after it has been reflected in the line \( y = x + 6 \) ?

Correct Wrong

4. What are the coordinates of the point \( (1,-5) \) after it has been reflected in the line \( y = 2 - x\) ?

Correct Wrong

5. What are the coordinates of the point \( (-3,3) \) after it has been rotated through an angle of \( 180^{\circ} \) about the point \( (5,5) \) ?

Correct Wrong

6. What are the coordinates of the point \( (3,-1) \) after it has been rotated through an angle of \( 90^{\circ} \) anticlockwise about the point \( (0,0) \) ?

Correct Wrong

7. What are the coordinates of the point \( (6,3) \) after an enlargement of scale factor \( 2 \) with centre of enlargement at \( (1,2) \) ?

Correct Wrong

8. What are the coordinates of the point \( (-4,4) \) after an enlargement of scale factor \( 3 \) with centre of enlargement at \( (-2,-2) \) ?

Correct Wrong

9. What are the coordinates of the point \( (-3,2) \) after it has been reflected in the line \( x = 4 \) and then rotated through \( 180^{\circ} \) about \( (2,-3) \) ?

Correct Wrong

10. What are the coordinates of the point \( (4,6) \) after it has been translated by the vector \( \begin{pmatrix} -4 \\ -5 \\ \end{pmatrix} \) then enlarged with a scale factor \( 4 \) and a centre of enlargement at \( (-2,-3) \) ?

Correct Wrong

11. What are the coordinates of the point \( (-4,2) \) after an enlargement of scale factor \( 5 \) with centre of enlargement at \( (-5,1) \) followed by a reflection in the line \(y = 0\) ?

Correct Wrong

12. What are the coordinates of the point \( (-2,3) \) after it has been rotated through an angle of \( 90^{\circ} \) anticlockwise about the point \( (-1,-2) \) followed by being translated by the vector \( \begin{pmatrix} 4 \\ 1 \\ \end{pmatrix} \) followed by an enlargement of scale factor \( 4 \) with centre of enlargement at \( (-4,2) \) ?

Correct Wrong

Instructions

Try your best to answer the questions above. Type your answers into the boxes provided leaving no spaces. As you work through the exercise regularly click the "check" button. If you have any wrong answers, do your best to do corrections but if there is anything you don't understand, please ask your teacher for help.

When you have got all of the questions correct you may want to print out this page and paste it into your exercise book. If you keep your work in an ePortfolio you could take a screen shot of your answers and paste that into your Maths file.

Why am I learning this?

Mathematicians are not the people who find Maths easy; they are the people who enjoy how mystifying, puzzling and hard it is. Are you a mathematician?

Comment recorded on the 19 October 'Starter of the Day' page by E Pollard, Huddersfield:

"I used this with my bottom set in year 9. To engage them I used their name and favorite football team (or pop group) instead of the school name. For homework, I asked each student to find a definition for the key words they had been given (once they had fun trying to guess the answer) and they presented their findings to the rest of the class the following day. They felt really special because the key words came from their own personal information."

Comment recorded on the 14 September 'Starter of the Day' page by Trish Bailey, Kingstone School:

"This is a great memory aid which could be used for formulae or key facts etc - in any subject area. The PICTURE is such an aid to remembering where each number or group of numbers is - my pupils love it!
Thanks"

Each month a newsletter is published containing details of the new additions to the Transum website and a new puzzle of the month.

The newsletter is then duplicated as a podcast which is available on the major delivery networks. You can listen to the podcast while you are commuting, exercising or relaxing.

Transum breaking news is available on Twitter @Transum and if that's not enough there is also a Transum Facebook page.

Go Maths

Learning and understanding Mathematics, at every level, requires learner engagement. Mathematics is not a spectator sport. Sometimes traditional teaching fails to actively involve students. One way to address the problem is through the use of interactive activities and this web site provides many of those. The Go Maths page is an alphabetical list of free activities designed for students in Secondary/High school.
