  • Pupils should be as familiar with the sequence of square numbers as they were with the counting numbers when they were younger. Square numbers will crop up countless times in many different areas of Mathematics and the pupils will benefit if they recognise them quickly. This non-calculator Starter is very easy for the teacher to organise and for the pupils to understand. It differentiates by outcome, and gives the teacher a few minutes to get the rest of the lesson ready.
