Hints for Solving the Ropey Snowballs Puzzle

Do you know what consecutive means? If not, try to find out using a dictionary or by searching online.
Can you draw the rope diagram accurately on paper or in your exercise book so that all key features are the same?
Look at the joining points (nodes) where the ropes meet. Do all of these nodes have the same number of rope connections?
Think about each of the numbers involved. Do they all have the same number of consecutive numbers?
How can you systematically check your solution?
Remember, it might take a few attempts to get it right. Don't be discouraged if your first solution doesn't work — this is part of the problem-solving process. Keep trying different arrangements and learn from each attempt.
When you have solved this puzzle try the Christmas Tree Lights challenge. It is similar to this puzzle but involves the numbers 1 to 9.
