  • 7cd/m2 The Best Maths CCass Ever, King Alfred's Oxfordshire
  •
  • I thought that this was a great starter for us all to use trying to see if they will slot into place nicely.our teacher got this answer wrong before he was corrected.
  • Ava Godsy, North Glendale
  •
  • I really liked this game because it was fun and easy to understand. I like making charts and graphs and thinking about numbers in different ways.
  • Mrs Martin's Class, 7abM4
  •
  • Once you have some of the numbers in the grid it is really easy to put the others in place.
At first it's hard but start with the easy numbers.
  • Bob, Medway
  •
  • This doesn't work. 2 belongs in two places as does 6. 2 is prime, a factor of 168 and even. 6 is a multiple of 3, it's a factor of 168 and it's even. Unless you actually want to start a discussion about the validity of graphs, I really wouldn't use this.
  • Anne Carlill, Leeds City College
  •
  • This has been my most successful starter yet! I can't understand why anyone would be negative about it. It really gets students to retrieve what they know about square nos and primes. Thank you!
  • Gina, Derbyshire
  •
  • Of course it works! Not only that, there is only one solution; let's not forget that logic is a vital part of maths too. This is one of my favourite starters and can lead to all sorts of valuble discussions.
  • Y6 Dream Team, Tickhill St. Mary's
  •
  • We'd like to see more of these.
  • Dean Westbourne, Midlands
  •
  • Bob look at the big picture, yes some can fit in more than one place but pupils have to realise that all have to be used once as it states in the instructions! so I disagree with your comment it 'does work!'.
  • Josh Hand, King's Worcester
  •
  • Dear Bob
My Class of Year 9s managed to complete this starter. It is possible. Take a logic class!
    Mr Hand
    Best Maths Teacher Ever
    Official.
  • Year 6, Charnwood Primary School, Lichfield
  •
  • We found this really easy. We would love more of a challenge!
[Transum: Well Charnwood, if you would like more of a challenge try Satisfaction].
  • The Kiefer Kids, Cottage Hill
  •
  • Congratulations to Bailey, Cade, Katelin, and Jessica for solving this brain buster!
  • 5F JPs, Mr.C
  •
  • It was a good challenge for the children, not too hard not too easy. It also made us revise our understanding of 6 different mathematical terms.
  • Mr C, East Tuddenham
  •
  • We are confused, 1 is not a square number so we can not find a place for it, please send us the correct solution for our perusal.

[Transum: Sorry Mr C, the answers are only available to subscribers. Have you considered subscribing? By the way one is a square number.]
  • Colette Timble, Brewster Ny
  •
  • How do I know if I’m correct.

[Transum: This version of Small Satisfaction is intended to be projected in front of a class. It will hopefully encourage discussion and when complete, beg the questions 'is that correct?' and 'is there any other way of doing it?'. The pupil version of this activity is self checking so that the pupil will know if they are correct. You can find that version here. Alternatively the answers to this version are available below for Transum Subscribers]

Laptops In Lessons

Teacher, do your students have access to computers such as tablets, iPads or Laptops?  This page was really designed for projection on a whiteboard but if you really want the students to have access to it here is a concise URL for a version of this page without the comments:

However it would be better to assign one of the student interactive activities below.

Here is the URL which will take them to a self-checking student version of this activity.
