Mathematicians are not the people who find Maths easy; they are the people who enjoy how mystifying, puzzling and hard it is. Are you a mathematician? Comment recorded on the 24 May 'Starter of the Day' page by Ruth Seward, Hagley Park Sports College: "Find the starters wonderful; students enjoy them and often want to use the idea generated by the starter in other parts of the lesson. Keep up the good work" Comment recorded on the 28 September 'Starter of the Day' page by Malcolm P, Dorset: "A set of real life savers!! |
Each month a newsletter is published containing details of the new additions to the Transum website and a new puzzle of the month. The newsletter is then duplicated as a podcast which is available on the major delivery networks. You can listen to the podcast while you are commuting, exercising or relaxing. Transum breaking news is available on Twitter @Transum and if that's not enough there is also a Transum Facebook page. |

Numeracy"Numeracy is a proficiency which is developed mainly in Mathematics but also in other subjects. It is more than an ability to do basic arithmetic. It involves developing confidence and competence with numbers and measures. It requires understanding of the number system, a repertoire of mathematical techniques, and an inclination and ability to solve quantitative or spatial problems in a range of contexts. Numeracy also demands understanding of the ways in which data are gathered by counting and measuring, and presented in graphs, diagrams, charts and tables." Go MathsLearning and understanding Mathematics, at every level, requires learner engagement. Mathematics is not a spectator sport. Sometimes traditional teaching fails to actively involve students. One way to address the problem is through the use of interactive activities and this web site provides many of those. The Go Maths main page links to more activities designed for students in upper Secondary/High school. | ||

"Hello, I'm a child named Aaron Ku and I am in 6th grade and I have been on your website and solved many fun puzzle. Although there is one puzzle that always troubles me. It's the Delightfully divisible puzzle. I would be most grateful if you could tell me the answer as soon as possible. Thanks"

"Dear Aaron. I am not surprised that you have asked for help as it is quite a difficult puzzle.
It would be no fun if I simply told you the answer but I could give you a clue.
Firstly here are some quick ways of determining if a number is divisible by the numbers in the question:
- A number is divisible by 2 if its last digit is even (0,2,4,6 or 8)
- A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 3.
- A number is divisible by 4 if the number's last two digits are divisible by 4.
- A number is divisible by 5 if the its last digit is a 0 or 5.
- A number is divisible by 6 if it is divisible by 2 and 3 (see rules above).
- There is no simple test for divisibility by seven, you need to do the division and check there is no remainder!
- A number is divisible by 8 if the last three digits form a number that is divisible 8.
- A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of the digits is divisible by 9.
- A number is divisible by 10 if its last digit is 0.
Secondly, the first digit is a three!
Good Luck."

"This was really hard for me it took me 4 hours total to complete it and now going to try to solve it a different way."
Transum,

"One method of finding a solution to a puzzle in which the digits one to nine have to be arranged in a particular formation is by trying every different permutation. This strategy however is very time consuming. Even if it only took one second to arrange the numbers and check whether a solution has been found, you would need to allow over one hundred hours to complete the task!
Developing a strategy with some insight or consideration of the number patterns might be a better course of action. Good Luck! "

I have been attempting this question for many hours now and have not found the answer.
I was hoping that you could give me an answer or a clue to space 4
Thank you.

Thanks
