Tuesday 30th July continued. At 7:30am No.1 and Bosun once again came around waking us up. When we got up we had breakfast, which was American pancakes and boiled eggs. After breakfast at 9:30am we had flagbreak. Today it was Seagull's turn. The patrol duties included Gannet rubbish, Kingfisher communications, Mallard weather, Redshank boots, Cormorant stores and Dunlin toilets.
After flagbreak and inspection at 10:00am we all met around the flagpole for the start of "Now Get Out of That". It was a hike, but on the way you had some problems to get out of. The route and key were shown on a map at the start.
The problems included getting two kings and two pawns over a river with rules about which pieces could travel together, getting to a bomb in the centre of a circle without stepping inside the circle, assembling a raft and paddling across a river, cooking dinner with one small gas cooker and canoeing back to the site. Redshank was first to set off on the all day hike, then the other groups followed.
We got back at about 5:30pm. As soon as we got back we got changed and started the evening meal, which was space age food. Space age food is dehydrated food. The other groups started coming in at about fifteen minute intervals. When everyone had finished their meal and washed up it was about 7:30pm, then we had team games and a nature trail. After flagdown the PLs went out with Roger to pick a site to build a bivouac to sleep under for the night. We scouted around the good places to sleep, but finally chose to sleep over the fence near the lake. When we built our bivouac we went into the hut to watch some slides. After the slides we had supper, which was crisps and coffee, and the PLs went off to the bivouac while the others went into the tents.
