Wednesday continued. Cormorant made the most money because they had about four shows, including one where someone got inside a tent bag and tried to escape. Other shows included a ducking stool, frisbee throwing, stone throwing into buckets, electric wire, a card game and bird trail. The sideshow lasted about an hour and a half. While the country fayre was going on we had supper, which was hot dogs, and the tuck shop was open for about half an hour. After the fayre we all went to bed.
Thursday 1st August. The programme included rise, wash and breakfast at 8:00am, flagbreak and inspection at 10:00am, preparing for expedition at 10:15am, climbing a mountain at 11:00am, evening meal at 5:00pm, flagdown at 7:00pm and the retreat game at 7:30pm, with tuck shop and supper.
At 8:00am No.1 and Bosun came around and woke us all up for breakfast. Breakfast was cereals, bacon, eggs and mushrooms. We had two hours to do our breakfast and wash up. At around 10:00am we had flagbreak, and today Redshank did the flag. Duties included Gannet stores, Kingfisher toilets, Seagull rubbish, Mallard communications, Cormorant weather and Dunlin boots.
After flagbreak and inspection we prepared for our expedition around Great Borne. At 11:00am we were split up into groups and given a leader, then sent off at ten minute intervals. My group was last and was with Gannet, and our leader was Roger. The route took us around the lake, then when we got to the corner we carried on in a straight line. The route took us on hilly ground and it was very tiring. When we left the lake we walked in a straight line and then around Great Borne, where we were at the bottom of Great Borne and had our lunch of sandwiches and crisps.
After lunch we walked up Great Borne, which was very steep, so we had to keep stopping. At the top we saw everyone else sitting inside a small wind shelter. When it was time for us to go we walked down the steep hill and kept slipping. We had to walk down a small gorge, which was dangerous because the rocks were loose. When we got to the bottom we followed the lake around to the campsite. When we got back we started our evening meal.
