Tranter have arrived and so we climbed in and returned to the Scout hut. We unpacked the equipment and separated back home.
One thing that this camp did enable me to do was to collect the litter up which we had buried under the snow from my patrol camp a week before. On the whole a very enjoyable day, but could have done with a bit more organising on the PLs part. Robert Bood.
The Canoe Race
On Sunday the 14th we were going to have a canoe race with Second Bushbury. There were nine people chosen to be in the canoe race. There was me, Andrew Bates, Andrew Adey, David Onions, Robert Bood, David Ashton, Andrew Peak, Steven Benton and Adrian Jarvis. We left the Scout H.Q. at 2:15pm and we arrived at the marina at 2:35pm.
We got changed into our shorts and David's cut down tracksuit bottoms and Paddy into his wet suit. There were quite a lot of people who turned out to see us win against the 2nd Bushbury. The first people to enter the race were Robert Bood and David Onions and two other boys from 2nd Bushbury. It was a cold but sunny day. They all lined up ready to start. They were off, one of the Second Bushbury were well off in the lead, then Robert Bood was lying inside second place, then another of the 2nd Bushbury was lying in 3rd place and David Onions hadn't even started.
We all got into cars and zoomed off down to the Golden Bull. We all got out and raced to the bridge to see if they were coming. About ten minutes later we could see one of the Second Bushbury coming up the canal. They were showing off. They had a good start. Then Robert Bood was in sight and handed it over to Paddy, Andrew Adey, and chased after him. Then another of the Second Bushbury came in sight and got into third place. About ten minutes later David Onions came into sight. Then Andrew Bates tried to get into a good start. The 2nd Bushbury finished first and the 37th finished last.
The next race was the sprint. There was Steven Benton and David Ashton and two other boys from 2nd Bushbury. They were off. We had a bad start and they came first. It was my start. I couldn't get him and we lost. The points were 2nd Bushbury 20, 37th Wolverhampton 11. They were awarded with a shield, but we are going to win it next year. It was an enjoyable day. Paul Smith.
