The first stage of the course was a sail across the lake in Squish's boat. After this the Scouts had to do a dead man's crawl to reach the bank. After this they walked back around the lake doing various incidents. These incidents included taking the bearing of a light, abseiling, building an extension to a torch so that one could light up a message, rescuing Windy Miller after he tried to commit suicide in his car, and trying to get a frightened Russian spy from one side of a stream to another. During this incident one of the patrols did not bother to untie the spy but just wrapped it around the tree.
All of the Scouts thoroughly enjoyed themselves on this activity, although one slight technical hitch, namely the task, was too much. Some people did not get to bed until 3:30am. For one small Scout, Robert Cunningham, it all proved too much for him and whilst at the abseiling bridge he fell asleep. He was returned to camp in the minibus and put to bed. Unfortunately Robert did not get up again until Thursday afternoon, thus missing out all of Wednesday.
After a supper of hot dogs and soup all Scouts and leaders went to bed very tired. Not only was Wednesday Royal Wedding day but it was also official lay in day. Most Scouts took advantage of this and had a few extra hours sleep to make up for the hours lost the previous day.
At 11:00 we had flag break and this was closely followed by brunch: cornish pasties and pancakes. Whilst flag break was going on we heard His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales being married to Lady Diana. Later on in the day a stick of Royal Rock was awarded to Robert Bood for winning the red, white and blue dress competition. This rock was unusually eaten on the Duke of Edinburgh hike.
After brunch the troop was split up into two groups. One group visited Jodrell Bank and one group visited the Roches to see Davy, Lord of the Roches, and to do some rock climbing. A good time was had by all at Jodrell Bank and many of the Scouts had a souvenir like the one below to take home.
