Monday

On Monday Richard Tyler went ill and had to go to the camp hospital. Monday was the first day of the camp activities. My first lesson after breakfast was swimming, which we had just learned different strokes. After that lesson had finished we went down to the rifle range. Larry was the organiser on the range. On the first day we learned about safety rules and the next lesson we learned how to shoot the rifle just from lying down. Then we had lunch.

After lunch we had archery. We also learned the safety rules in the second lesson of archery and fired a few rounds at a couple of targets. Next I had wood carving. I started carving a hat which was in the shape of the Scout sign. Next we had our dinner, with hot dogs and baked beans. I never played the camp-wide game because during dinner I was sick and went to the camp hospital.

Tuesday

We were woken up by the bugle call. At eight o'clock we went down to flag break. We had to say if all of us were there. Mr Carson called all present or accounted for. We had cereal and French toast for breakfast. Next we did our usual camp activities. Me, Peter Lester and I were walking across the parking lot when Peter said, "Is this your shoe?" Then he held a shoe up. How did that get found so much off? How terrible was the camp dog who takes things out of your tent and leaves them at the flag down.

At flag down, when George asked if Mr Carson knew all his own Scouts, he said, "Banana bearer march." Jack Squire marched forward and the banana bearer peeled the banana. Then Jack peeled a banana, banana bearer ate banana, and banana bearer fired banana. Jack Squire carried the banana at the American flag. We all shouted bang and Alan Hill, who was standing behind the American flag pole, shook the flag pole. We then had a barbecue after. The Indians came across the lake in a canoe to take some boys over, and we had to spend the night on their own. After this we went back to Mr Carson and some of us swapped our American badges.
