Cub Camp 1980
Kibblestone Camp Site
Saturday 3rd of May until Monday 5th of May 1980
On Saturday third of May at 8:30am myself (Robert Bood), Andrew Adey, Neil Quinton, Andrew Denner and Stephen Hateley met down the Scout hut and as we were the service team for the Cubs we loaded all of the camping gear into the boot of the coach. We then set off.
We arrived at Kibblestone about an hour and a bit later and after booking in, received our camper’s cards we began to pitch the tents. I was in charge of Ipswich six, Neil Quinton was in charge of Liverpool six, Andrew Adey was in charge of Arsenal six and Andrew Denner was in charge of Wolves six. We helped (did most of) the pitching of these tents and then pitched John Tranter and Nigel Blount’s tent and then our tent. The clubs then had a game of football before having their tea which was cooked by Bill and Mary Goodwin.
We also went for a quick dip in the plunge pool which was only a few degrees above freezing. All the Cubs who swam one length received a Mars bar each. The Scouts then went and played on the swing over the stream.
The tea consisted of beef burgers mash and vegetables with pudding and tea or squash for afters. The tea was delicious and the washing-up was done by one of the sixes. We all then continued to collect wood for the campfire with second Bushbury Scouts.
An altar file was built and the Nige Blount lighting mechanism placed inside and plenty of paraffin was placed in. We all gathered round the campfire John said a rhyme - up went the fire – up went the flames - is a lot blew in the wind and nearly burnt everybody's heads. Second Bushbury dived back over their bench and broke it. The campfire then continued as normal with the Cub leaders performing at Tiswas cage trick on us. We had supper at about 10 o'clock and then the Cubs went to bed. The Scouts stayed up for a talk and a drink of shandy before ourselves going to bed at about 12.
