The Cubs were up and playing football at 7:30am and kicking the ball into our tent. The Scouts got up at 9am, had a wash and then ate our breakfast of cereal, bacon and eggs. The Cub leaders then complained a lot about a noise they had heard that night. The Cubs then had a game of football before going to Scouts’ own. They then went to the provider and had a game of football. While they had a game of football the Scouts went for another freezing dip in the pool. When we got back the Cubs were engaged in making jewellery model pioneering and a few more things.
We then had a sandwich cake and squash lunch. After lunch the Scouts started playing with the model pioneering equipment and ended up making a bow and arrow for nearly all the Cubs. The Cubs then played football and cowboys and Indians while Scouts sunbathed before going for another dip in the pool.
We came back and then played football. The Cubs then had a lecture on tracking another game of football then tea. Tea was turkey and vegetables with trifle for afters. This was washed up by Ipswich six. The Cubs then played cowboys and Indians and football again. They then had a long inter-six quiz which took a few hours before they had their supper. The Cubs then went to bed. The Scouts stayed up for a shandy and a talk. The Cub leaders explained to us more fully the noise that they were so scared of last night. They explained that it sounded like a telephone ringing just outside the tent. An hour later the Scouts went to bed. John came along and told us that it was he and Nigel who had put the speakers underneath the ground sheet with wires running off. He told us to listen out in one hour’s time. We did so and presently heard the screams of the women. All went quiet presently so we went to sleep.
We woke up about 8 o'clock and soon found the Cubs playing football (again!). We had another beautiful breakfast which when washed. The plates and Billys were cleaned up before the Cubs began to pack it away and taking the tents down with the PLs help. We then took down a few more tents before cleaning a gas cooker each. The PLs then set out a tracking course for the Cubs. We then accompanied our respective sixes around the course. It was then decided to run as sort of potted sports which included sweatshirt relay, balloon toss, welly wanging, blindfold piggyback, jousting over the stream and a swing relay. These were immensely enjoyed by the Cubs and so was the lunch. The PLs then went on an impossible and stupid assault course which was just one long dead man's crawl reaching a 45° angle at some places.
More tents were taken down and everything was put in a pile. We all went up to the tuckshop again we came back and began the closure of camp presents were given to Mrs Grainger as it was her birthday. The club leaders then gave the PLs and Stephen Hateley a lanyard and knife fork spoon set. Everybody thanked Mr and Mrs Goodwin for their services as cooks. We then fell out and packed the coach. The warden inspected the site and we set off home at about 3pm. When we got to the Scout hut to we unloaded the coach. The Cubs and leaders and most of the Scouts except me, Neal Quinton and Squish packed to the gear away. That was the end of which was a very enjoyable camp. Robert Bood.
