Canoe Journey

On this particular journey the number was limited to 8 scouts. These were Andrew Adey, Robert Bood, Andrew Dennan, Michael O'Neill, Andrew Powell and I.

We set off at Oxley Moor at approximately 10. We canoed to the Anchor pub at 11:30am for a drink and a packet of crisps. There I had my packet because they were loose. We changed over the canoes and at 12:00 we departed. We stopped by an abandoned old barge and set off again for our destination, Calf Heath, where we arrived at 2pm. We got our canoes and lifted them out of the water.

We then played about and walked around. We then went to the shops. Later on we had a game of football. We walked round the marina because the gates were now closed and in the end had to go to another gate.

At 7:00 no. 1 arrived with the tent and other equipment. We had dinner consisting of beefburgers, potatoes and peas, cooked by Adey. We were going to have a cup of tea but O'Neill had lost the tea in his bag, so instead we had a cup of E.Tea. If the tea gets you the meaning. The washing up got done and we woke up at 7:00pm. Adey and I took all our wet and other equipment we had no use for and departed for Oxley Moor.

We had various stops on the way. At about 2:20 we arrived under the bridge by the canoe club. Here we had lunch. At 2:30 we arrived at Oxley Moor by the Wolverhampton canoe club headquarters. We took out the canoes, unloaded them and our kit on and in the trailer. Altogether this ended a fair, sunny, enjoyable weekend of canoeing. Michael Petty.
