Bike Hike. On the Wednesday before the hike the PLs is had planned the forwarding events and this particular one was planned for Saturday, April 19th.
We met at the Scout hut at 9:30am, altogether nine of us turned up Neil Quinton Jason Parker, Paul Smith, Michael O'Neill, Michael Peters, Robert Bood, Andrew Bates, Andrew Denner and of course John Tranter. We then set to find to map bearers, meanwhile Michael Peters had, as usual, arrived late. So we made him and Michael O'Neill the map readers.
The group set out and the dubious drivers made way for us but before long Robert Bood’s chain had stuck between cogs and we mended it. I (Neal) swapped bikes with Robert and made our way to Mosley old Hall, passing second Bushbury's headquarters. There we took the times of the day that the hall opened. There was also a short interlude while we rested
Soon after we began to ride again this time towards Calf Heath. All the time we were riding we always had a strong wind blowing in our faces which made going hard. While riding along one road John noticed a sign advertising goats’ milk so as we needed some milk for our tea so we decided to buy some. I rode up the drive while John parked by the gates when suddenly an Alsatian on a 25 foot chain bounced at me and bit me on my left leg, tearing a hole in my trousers, in haste I pulled my bike around onto the dog and ran then we knocked on the front door of the cottage but no one answered. The only person we saw was the next door neighbour who told us they were out.
After that the party left and arrived at Calf Heath Marina. While we were there we looked over the patch of grass where the Scouts had used to camp when on their canoeing trips. Then we went to the cafe at the marina to find out who the land belong to. John asked one woman and she didn't know so she asked another woman and she didn't know so she asked her husband and after a little confusion he came.
