Use ratio notation, simplify ratios, and divide a quantity into parts based on a given ratio.

This is level 2: simplifying ratios. You will be awarded a trophy if you get at least 7 answers correct and you do this activity online. Type in your answer as two numbers separated by a colon (no spaces). The numbers in the answer should be in the same order as the corresponding numbers in the question.

The number of boys in a club is 44 and the number of girls is 143.

Bougainvillea
Last year my bougainvillea plant was 235cm long. This year it is 5.8m long. Express the ratio of the plant's length last year compared to this year in its simplest form.

The West park has 2000 square metres of flowers beds and 5500 square metres of grass. Express the ratio of flower beds to grass in its simplest form.

A total weight of 161kg of sugar was delivered to the Costalot Supermarket. 70kg of the sugar was stacked on the shelves while the rest was left in the stock room. Express in the lowest terms the ratio of sugar on the shelves and in the stock room.

A factory was painted with 143 litres of pink paint. The pink paint was made by mixing red and white paint together. It took 33 litres of red paint to make the mix. Express in the lowest terms the ratio of red and white paint used.

Ant and Dec were paid £136 for writing a column for a magazine. They shared out the money in proportion to the amount of work they did. Ant received £96 and Dec received the rest. Express the ratio of their earnings in its lowest terms.

Introduction to Ratios

Please be aware that the levels referenced in this video pertain to the structure of the exercise when it consisted of only seven levels. Following the production of the video, I introduced a new Level 4, focused on simplifying ratios to the form 1:n. Consequently, the previous Level 4 was reassigned as Level 5, Level 5 advanced to Level 6, and this pattern continued accordingly. I am confident you will be able to navigate these changes; my apologies for any inconvenience caused.
